The First Act of Creation (2014)

'Every moment is a chance to encounter the world afresh.' A participatory practice in three stages.

1) Reliving a recent journey from A to B in our memory and noticing the images as well as the gaps we might encounter there.

2) Entering into a multi-sensorial exploration that challenges habitual ways of perceiving and being in the world, by using particular natural and man-made objects as 'lenses' or 'channels', allowing them to become 'instruments of consciousness' (Shelley Sacks).

3) Articulating and reflecting on the experience and sharing it with the other participants. What can we learn about our perception and the nature of reality by sharing our observations and thoughts, and taking in those of others?

'The First Act of Creation' was part of the symposium 'of Art of Culture of - A dialogue on truth and imagination' that took place at Oxford Brookes University in May 2014. Elements originate from an earlier participatory practice - the 'Arena for Enlivened Observation' - implemented in December 2013.
